Batangas City prevails over Imus in MPBL playoffs

The Batangas City Embassy Chill leaned on a strong start to defeat the Imus SV Squad, 78-71, in Game 1 of the MPBL Southern Division quarterfinals on late Tuesday night at the Batangas City Coliseum.

Juneric Baloria top-scored for Batangas City with 17 points, to go with five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block as they surged to a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three series.

Levi Hernandez contributed 13 points, including three outside conversions, while Jeckster Apinan added 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block for Batangas City.

The Embassy Chill waxed hot early as they established a 21-8 advantage, which later grew to 44-28 at the half and later to its biggest of 58-39 on a conversion from Dawn Ochea late in the third period.

Batangas City maintained the double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter at 62-48 following a layup by Hernandez before Imus mounted a huge run but only managed to trim the deficit to seven points.

Carlo Lastimosa was the lone double-digit scorer for Imus with 18 points, while Jean Marc Pingris hauled 10 rebounds to go with seven points in the loss.
