Gilas Pilipinas prospect Onyeka Okongwu shows three-point improvement

Gilas Pilipinas prospect Onyeka Okongwu showed his much-improved three-point shooting for the Atlanta Hawks ahead of the 2023–2024 NBA season.

The 6-foot-9 Okongwu drilled two out of his three three-point attempts during the Hawks’ 108-107 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in an NBA pre-season game on Tuesday night (Wednesday, Manila time).

Okongku finished the game with 12 points (5-for-7 field goal shooting) to go with two rebounds while serving as a backup center to Clint Capela.

According to Rotoworld Basketball, Okongwu was encouraged by Hawks head coach Quin Snyder during the offseason to expand his range and shoot from deep sometimes.

In his first three years in the NBA with the Hawks, Okongwu has only connected on four out of 16 three-point attempts.

The improved three-point shooting of Okongwu will be an added boost for the Gilas Pilipinas if his naturalization pushes through.

Okongwu has previously said that he is interested in serving as one of Gilas Pilipinas’ naturalized players in the future.
