Whether it’s the wings of an eagle, a titan, or a fairy, 26-year-old Maddie Madayag continues to show she’s meant to soar.
The Kurobe Aqua Fairies of Japan’s SV.League announced on Monday that they have signed the decorated middle blocker as one of their key imports for the upcoming season.
Joining her are wing spikers Iris Scholten from the Netherlands and Lena Stigrot from Germany.
The announcement surprised many, especially dedicated fans who have followed Maddie’s career since her days as an Ateneo Lady Eagle (now Ateneo Blue Eagles).
She is the fourth Ateneo alumna to take her talents abroad, following Alyssa Valdez, Marck Espejo, and Jia Morado-De Guzman, with the latter two still active in Japan.
Known as “Madzilla,” Maddie previously represented the Philippine national team multiple times. This year, she was named Best Middle Blocker in the PVL’s All-Filipino Conference and received the same accolade during the Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ stint at the VTV Cup in Vietnam last year.
Her Rebisco family, who were her first sponsors right after college, also expressed their pride in her new achievement.
