New owner of beloved Rosehill Seafood discusses anticipated reopening

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The iconic Rosehill Seafood restaurant is set to reopen after it was closed down at the beginning of the year. The restaurant will be reopening under new management.

Rosehill Seafood, located on Hamilton Road, has been run by Jeff Lunsford for decades, as this is the business his father started.

In May 2025, Lunsford closed the doors due to timing and a lack of consistent workers, but now that has changed after Bufford King was named the new owner.

"Our goal is to continue on the legacy of Rosehill. That's what we want to do. That's why we were interested in this business because they've done such a great job for the past few years. That you know…. we'd be crazy to come in and want to, you know, recreate everything. So that's what we want to do," he said.

King is a Columbus native who visited the restaurant throughout his life. He left a career in medical sales to reopen the doors of the beloved seafood restaurant. However, he won't be opening the doors of Rosehill Seafood alone.

"Mr. Lunsford has been so nice to agree to stay on for a time and help us," King said.

"I want to show him what he has to do, and be with him and do this and get it back up like it's supposed to be," said Lunsford. "He wants to run it like I did, the only way he can do that is I teach him."

Lunsford has expressed excitement about the restaurant reopening under new management and discussed keeping his same routine he had when it first opened.

"I still get down here at 6:30 in the morning, just like I did when I was opening before," he expressed.

Lunsford also says, although he is excited for the reopening, he says it is bittersweet that his time as owner has come to an end, but he believes the restaurant is in good hands.
