Carl Tamayo made the most of the playing time given to him as the Ryukyu Golden Kings cruised to an 84-69 victory over the Sendai 89ers in Japan B.League Division 1 on Sunday night at the Okinawa Arena.
The former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons forward tallied nine points, including two three-pointers, in 11 minutes of play as the defending champion Golden Kings improved to a 19-6 record.
Jack Cooley led the way for the Golden Kings with a huge double-double of 25 points and 27 rebounds, while Vic Law added 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists in the victory.
“We corrected any mismatches we had with our opponents and kept the pressure on from beginning to end, and everyone worked hard until the end,” Golden Kings head coach Dan Oketani said after the game.
“However, there were times when we almost gave the ball away to Sendai from a three-point shot, but I think the team was able to solidify their defense,” he added.
Nathan Boothe top-scored with 23 points, Volodymyr Gerun had a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds, and Jae-Min Yang and Ryo Abe had 12 and 10, respectively, as the 89ers dropped to 11-14.
