Dave Ildefonso benched as Suwon KT wallops Busan

Dave Ildefonso and the Suwon KT Sonic Boom hacked out a 98-83 victory over the Busan KCC Egis in the Korean Basketball League on Saturday night at the Suwon KT Arena.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout was not fielded in by head coach Song Young-jin, but it hardly mattered as the Sonic Boom improved to a 17-9 record.

Paris Bass had near triple-double numbers of 29 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists; Heo Hoon, Heewon Han, and Seongwoo Jeong added 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively; and Moon Seong-gon and Moon Jeong-hyeon had 11 each for Suwon.

“The players clearly recognized that it was an important game. The defense we wanted to play went well. I think it was a good game because many spectators came for the first time in a long time,” Song said.

Alize Johnson had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Ricardo Ratliffe and Heo Woong added 16 markers apiece as the Egis dropped to a 13-10 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, Alex Cabagnot struggled with just five points, four assists, and one rebound as the Goyang Sono Skygunners (9-17) suffered an 86-67 loss to the Seoul Samsung Thunders (5-21) at the Goyang Sono Arena.

Chinanu Onuaku, who was under fire for his unsportsmanlike contact with Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters’ Rhenz Abando, finished with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds for Goyang.
