Juan Gomez de Liano and the Seoul SK Knights barely escaped with a 64-62 win over Justin Gutang and the Changwon LG Sakers in the Korean Basketball League on Saturday night at the Changwon Gym.
Gomez de Liano, formerly of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, was not fielded by the SK Knights, but it hardly mattered as they captured their 15th win in 23 matches.
Jameel Warney led the way with 20 points, including the game-winning basket, while Seonhyung Kim and Oh Se-geun chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the SK Knights.
“We showed our defensive form for the first time against LG, and the players played really well. We forced them to commit 24 turnovers and made 17 steals. Our defense was 100%,” said Seoul head coach Jeon Hee-cheol.
“The field goal success rate was not good, so there were a lot of disappointments on the offensive side, but it seems that LG and we, too, made a lot of preparations in defense,” he added.
Lee Jae-do top-scored with 12 points, while Assem Marei had a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds, and Gutang contributed three points as the LG Sakers dropped to 16-7.
