Adamson coach sees UST loss as wake-up call for rising Baby Falcons

Adamson University head coach Mike Fermin characterized their 67-64 defeat to the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs last Sunday as a wake-up call for the Baby Falcons in the UAAP Season 86 high school boys basketball tournament.

According to Fermin, their first loss of the season served as a reality check for his players, emphasizing that they should not underestimate any opponents, especially in the second round of eliminations.

“A wake-up call ‘yun,” said Fermin in an interview following the Baby Falcons’ 78-54 win over the University of the East Junior Warriors on Wednesday. “Basta ang sa amin lang, being on top, there’s a prize for that. Target ka ng ibang teams.”

“To be able to be consistent, hindi kami dapat magpabaya. Hindi ‘yung okay lang. Dapat, may sense of urgency every time we play,” he added. “Dapat meron kaming goal na gusto naming makuha.”

Fermin expressed that the Baby Falcons are determined to clinch the championship this season after falling short to the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 85 finals last year.

“Of course, the ultimate goal is to win the championship. Pero ang dapat na maging immediate goal namin is entering the Final Four. The task at hand is winning every game,” Fermin said.

Against the Junior Warriors, Vince Reyes led the way with 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Mark Esperanza contributed 17 points as they maintained their top position with an 8-1 win-loss slate.
