The Minnesota Timberwolves bounced back following their loss to the Dallas Mavericks with a dominant 113-92 win against the Orlando Magic in their third straight road game on Wednesday.
It was a spectacular start for the Timberwolves, as they went on an 11-0 run by the big-man tandem of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns before Orlando fought back by scoring eight straight points. However, Minnesota would then go on a 15-3 scoring run to put Orlando behind by double digits early in the game, eventually finishing the quarter leading 33-16.
The Magic cut the lead down to as little as nine points in the second quarter with a 39-30 deficit with less than seven and a half minutes to go, but they could not get their offense to flow compared to the Timberwolves, who went lights out and outscored them 28-7 for the rest of the period, ending the first half with an overwhelming 30-point lead at 67-37.
The Timberwolves led by as much as 34 points and never felt in danger for the rest of the game. The closest Orlando got to reducing the massive lead was a 19-point deficit with less than six minutes to go in the fourth, but ultimately they could not push through.
The loss snaps the Magic’s brief two-game winning streak after their wins over the Denver Nuggets and the Atlanta Hawks.
Six Timberwolves players scored in double figures, with Towns leading all scorers with 28 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Gobert nabbed himself a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds while notching three blocks.
Moritz Wagner scored the most for Orlando with 21 points off the bench, with Jalen Suggs close behind with 20. Paolo Banchero scored 18 points but had an off-shooting night across the field, going 8-for-22 on field goals.
There’s no rest for Minnesota (26-10) as they head to Boston to face the Celtics (28-8) the next day, while Orlando (21-16) begins their three-game road trip with a matchup against the Miami Heat (21-15) on Saturday.
