Alex Cabagnot, Goyang upset Ethan Alvano, Wonju

Alex Cabagnot and the Goyang Sono Skygunners pulled off a massive 94-88 upset over Ethan Alvano and the Wonju DB Promy in the Korean Basketball League on Tuesday night at the Wonju Sports Complex.

The former PBA guard finished with two points, one assist, and one steal in almost eight minutes of action as the Skygunners kicked off the year with a victory for a 10-18 win-loss slate.

“The players worked really hard to achieve this win,” said Goyang head coach Kim Seung-gi. “Wonju are good shooters, so we switched and defended to avoid giving away 3-point shots as much as possible.”

Chinanu Onuaku led the way with a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds; Hobin Han and Kim Kang-seon added 16 markers apiece; and Minwook Kim and Park Jong-ha ended with 14 and 13, respectively, for Goyang.

“A lot of players performed better than expected against DB, the best team in the league. It feels good to win. “It is a very valuable and great victory,” Onuaku said after the game.

“Unlike previous games, we started strong against Wonju. Usually, our team had a tough game in the beginning, but (against Wonju), we were up by about 10 to 15 points from the start,” he added.

Alvano finished with 11 points, six assists, three rebounds, and two steals, while Didrick Lawson and Sangjae Kang had 21 and 20, respectively, as the Promy dropped to a 23-6 record.
