Rey Remogat has reportedly joined the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons after receiving an offer that is five times greater than what the University of the East Red Warriors could provide.
According to a Buzzard, the guard from Cavite had a meeting with the Red Warriors management last week, providing them an opportunity to match the significant offer from the Fighting Maroons, but unfortunately, it yielded no results.
The Buzzard chose not to disclose the exact amount, but another source indicated that UP purportedly extended a P5 million signing bonus in addition to a P70,000 monthly allowance. In contrast, UE could only provide a P1 million bonus and a P20,000 monthly allowance.
“Binigyan naman ni Rey ng chance ang UE if kaya nila tapatan para mag stay siya pero hindi talaga uubra kaya nagdecide na siya and his family na tanggapin ‘yung offer ng UP na matagal tagal na din nasa mesa,” the Buzzard said.
“Kung si Rey lang naman, gusto sana niya mag stay sa UE kaso may mga bagay na kailangan niya i-consider at kagatin. ‘Yung offer na malaki din ang magiging tulong sa kanila,” he added.
The Buzzard additionally mentioned that the P5 million bonus and P70,000 monthly allowance offered to Remogat were deemed “reasonable,” considering his second-place finish in the MVP race during the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament last year.
“Sa kalakaran ng pera-pera recruitment, reasonable naman ‘yung offer ng UP kay Remogat since napatunayan niya na kaya niyang maging star. Ang kaabang-abang lang is if he will have the same impact sa UP compared nung nasa UE siya,” the Buzzard said.
Remogat will remain eligible for two UAAP seasons following the completion of his one-year residency with the Fighting Maroons this year.
