KBL: Miguel Oczon, Ulsan stun Ethan Alvano, Wonju

Miguel Oczon and the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus secured a 99-91 upset victory against the Korean Basketball League leader, Wonju DB Promy, on Tuesday night at the Wonju Sports Complex.

The former College of St. Benilde Blazers guard contributed five points, including one three-point connection, to go with two steals and one assist as the Phoebus improved to a 17-17 record.

Gaige Prim spearheaded the victory with a double-double of 31 points and 16 assists; Jiwan Kim added 17 markers; and Moobin Park contributed 13 points for the Phoebus.

“Our senior players did a good job, especially in the second half,” Phoebus head coach Cho Dong-hyun said. “Prim was not 100 percent, but I am glad my other players stepped up during those times that he was resting.”

Kim Jong-gyu top-scored for Wonju with 19 points, while Filipino-American guard Ethan Alvano and Sangjae Kang chipped in 17 markers apiece as they dropped to a 27-8 win-loss slate.

This was Wonju’s second defeat in their last three matches.
