Gregory Slaughter’s season-high display unable to lift Fukuoka to victory

Despite Gregory Slaughter’s season-high performance, the Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka couldn’t secure a victory, succumbing to a lopsided 88-59 defeat against the Altiri Chiba in Japan B.League Division 2 on Monday at the Chiba Port Arena.

The former Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings center gained a rare starting nod as he finished with 12 points to go with seven rebounds and one assist for the Fukuoka squad.

Chiba immediately showed their might in the first quarter with a 25-15 lead, which grew to 44-32 at the half. Altiri pulled away further in the second half with a 17-8 scoring run to give them the biggest lead of 29 points.

Yusuke Okada led the way for Chiba with 18 points, including five three-point conversions; Brandon Ashley had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds; and Dererk Pardon and Alex Davis ended with 14 and 10, respectively.

Shuki Shigetomi top-scored with 16 points, Toshikazu Kato added 11 markers, and Shunto Murakami contributed 10 for Fukuoka, which also bowed to Chiba on Saturday night, 79-63.

Chiba thus stayed on top of Division 2 with a 29-3 win-loss slate, while Fukuoka dropped to 24-8.
