UST Junior Growling Tigresses crush Tripple B to win Akari U16 crown

The UST Junior Growling Tigresses asserted their dominance with a commanding 71-23 win over Tripple B to emerge as the inaugural champions of the Akari U16 Girls’ Basketball Invitational on Sunday, June 22, at the Victoria Sports Center.

UST imposed its will early, racing to a 40-10 lead by halftime, and never looked back to cap a perfect tournament run.

Jesabel Anacan was named Finals MVP after a stellar all-around performance of 10 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists. Teammates Uriel Capinpin and Sofia Petalcorin joined her in the Mythical Five selection.

Capinpin also bagged the Best Defensive Player plum, tallying a game-high 14 points and six boards.

Tripple B’s Matia Molina put up a valiant effort with eight points and nine rebounds, while Kairi Ebao added six markers.

The Tigresses swept the eliminations with a 6-0 record and continued their rampage in the semis by trouncing the Akari Baby Chargers, 86-34.

Tripple B, which finished with a 4-3 slate in the eliminations, settled for a runner-up finish in the week-long tilt.
