Nueva Ecija clobbers Cebu to stay undefeated

The Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards broke away in the third quarter to score a 108-78 rout against the Cebu Classics in the 2025 MPBL Season on Thursday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Nick Demusis posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with three assists, two steals, and a block in his Nueva Ecija debut as they improved to a 16-0 win-loss slate.

“We were down in the first half; we did not have energy. Coach kinda gave it to us at halftime, like what I said earlier, we just put up some fight, and we took it from there,” Demusis said in his Player of the Game interview.

John Wilson led the way for Nueva Ecija with 17 points, including three three-pointers, while Byron Villarias, Jayvee Marcelino, and Jammer Jamito added 15, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

Holding to a slim 52-50 lead at the half, the Rice Vanguards unloaded a massive 31-6 scoring blast in the third period behind Demusis en route to establishing their largest lead at 35 points.

Paolo Hubalde and Jan Jamon finished with 15 points apiece, Ken Holmqvist and Dolan Adlawan contributed 12 markers each, while Mark Meneses had 10 points and 12 rebounds as Cebu dropped to a 4-12 record.

Meanwhile, the Zamboanga SiKat leaned on James Una’s timely conversions in the endgame to turn back the 1Bataan Risers, 84-82.

The 6-foot-5 Una, formerly of San Sebastian College Golden Stags, scored back-to-back baskets inside, including the go-ahead shot with nine seconds left to push Zamboanga to its 14th win against 3 losses.

Una wound up with 12 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks for Zamboanga.
