Islay Erika Bomogao cherishes first KO win in ONE Championship

Islay Erika Bomogao called her first knockout victory in ONE Championship a special milestone in her career.

The Team Bagsik striker connected a clean body shot that floored Narea Rubio—and it was all she needed to end the fight.

“I wasn’t specifically targeting the body,” said Bomogao, who was recently named one of Benguet CARES’ Athletes of the Year. “The game plan was to target everything—head, body, legs. I must deal every strike with power. I saw an opportunity for a clean shot, and I took it.”

Bomogao added that the body blow was part of their strategy to stay unpredictable in the ring.

She credited Team Bagsik and the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines for helping her manage a packed schedule—including her gold medal double at the recent IFMA World Muay Thai Championship.

“It’s been an intense whirlwind. It’s all about staying disciplined and having a strong support system,” she said. “Then meticulous planning is important when it comes to training, programs, nutrition, rest, and recovery time.”
