The Ateneo Blue Eagles are gearing up for a rivalry match against the De La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament this Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Blue Eagles star Lyann de Guzman said that their come-from-behind victory against the UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday (22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9) serves as a significant morale boost as they prepare for the upcoming rivalry match.
“We all know na sobrang big kapag nagtapat ang Ateneo at La Salle, but sabi nga ni coach (Sergio Veloso), na we just have to keep playing inside the court and darating na ‘yung points sa amin naturally and the win,” de Guzman said.
“Very huge itong panalo na ito kasi nakaka-boost siya ng confidence, and we know that we are doing great sa training and kaya namin, but kailangan lang talaga namin mailabas sa game ‘yun tinetraining namin,” she added.
Sophia Buena, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of adhering to Veloso’s system for the Blue Eagles to have a chance against the Lady Spikers. The latter aim to rebound from their unexpected defeat to the UST Golden Tigresses.
“For me also, as long as we stick to the system and enjoy and trust each other inside the court, Kasi, if we have the same intensity when we face La Salle, then we might have a chance,” Buena said.
“I think we are starting to find our groove inside the court and starting to become more confident, which is important for us heading into our next game,” added the sophomore volleybelle.
With their victory over the Fighting Maroons, the Blue Eagles have now improved to a 1-2 win-loss record.
