Manny Pacquiao and the Gensan Bulalakaw are gearing up for a crucial must-win game against the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the final match of the MPBL Pre-Season Invitational tonight at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City.
Pacquiao and Bulalakaw revived their slim semifinal chances with a remarkable 83-80 win over the Quezon City Toda Aksyon on Friday night, bringing their record to 1-1.
“Paghahandaan namin ng matindi ‘yung laban namin sa Pampanga, talagang pag-uusapan namin ‘yung game plan para makapasok kami sa semis,” Pacquiao said in a post-game interview.
Pacquiao, making an impact in the third quarter, concluded the game with eight points on 2-of-19 field goal shooting, alongside nine rebounds, one assist, and four turnovers in 33 minutes of play.
Victor Nguidjol led the way for the Bulalakaw with a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds to go with three blocks; Don Diamante added 24 points and 13 rebounds; and Aljon Cupal ended with 10 points.
Rhinwil Yambing finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists; Alex Desoyo added 15 markers; and Camillus Altamirano contributed 13 points for Quezon City, which fell to a 0-2 record.
Meanwhile, the Giant Lanterns maintained their unbeaten record after two matches following a lopsided 103-80 victory over the Valenzuela Classic, which dropped to a 1-1 slate.
Jeff Viernes top-scored for the Giant Lanterns with 22 points, including five three-pointers; Justine Baltazar added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds; and Mat William de Leon ended with 11 points.
