The Strong Group Athletics are approaching their Premier Volleyball League debut in the 1st All-Filipino Conference, set to begin on February 20 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, with tempered expectations.
As per Strong Group team manager CK Kanapi-Danioclo, head coach Onyok Getigan’s team primarily consists of PVL newcomers and some players who have been absent from the league for a period of time.
“As much as possible, let’s not really have high expectations yet because these players that we got are basically first-timers in the league,” Kanapi-Danioclo said during the PVL press conference on Wednesday.
“Of course, hopefully, along the way (in the All-Filipino Conference), with the players we have selected from the tryouts, the team will live up to our name as Strong Group,” she added.
SGA assistant team manager Kiara Cruz mentioned that team owner Frank Lao is not exerting significant pressure on the new team, which took the place of the Quezon City Gerflor Defenders.
“As a new team in PVL, boss Frank just wants to give an opportunity for these kids to play. We don’t want any expectations from them because they’re a very, very young team,” Cruz said.
SGA is anticipated to unveil the complete lineup in the upcoming days.
