Graduating libero Roma Mae Doromal has been appointed as the captain to lead the rebuilding Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
Doromal expressed gratitude to newly-appointed Blue Eagles head coach Sergio Veloso for entrusting her with the team captain role in her final year in the UAAP, stating that she feels blessed and grateful for the opportunity.
“Siyempre super grateful ako and blessed to have that privilege na ma-lead sila being the team captain on my final year,” Doromal said in an interview with UAAP Varsity Channel.
Acknowledging the challenges of leading a team with mostly rookies or sophomores, Doromal admitted her new role won’t be easy. Nevertheless, she is committed to being a good leader, aiming to leave a lasting impression on her alma mater.
“Hindi siya smooth sailing, challenging talaga, to lead a rebuilding team and specifically bago rin ‘yung coach namin,” Doromal said. “So far naman kaya ko naman, and, at the same time, with the help of my teammates, hindi naman sila mahirap i-lead.”
“At si coach din, hindi naman niya pinapahirapan ‘yung trabaho ko (as a team captain). Masaya ako at super grateful na ma-lead sila,” the Ilongga volleybelle further stated.
Doromal and the Blue Eagles have set their sights on a comeback, looking to improve from their sixth-place finish in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament last year.
