Star hitter Vanessa Gandler disclosed that the addition of national women’s volleyball team libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig has positively influenced the Cignal HD Spikers.
She made this remark in a post-game interview after their recent victory in the 2024 Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League.
Gandler considers herself fortunate to partner with Macandili-Catindig, emphasizing the latter’s role as a vocal leader and personal mentor during their training sessions.
“It’s such a big impact that Dawn has on this team. I think one thing that people don’t know is how vocal of a leader she is, which is super helpful to our team,” Gandler said.
“I’m just so shocked and starstruck by Dawn. She really teaches me, she corrects us, and she also asks us for help, so it’s really nice because we all work as one,” she added.
The HD Spikers continue their winning streak in the PNVF Champions League, securing their second victory against the Petro Gazz Angels on Monday night with scores of 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-20.
“You could see that our team is slowly coming together, especially from the last conference, and hopefully it’s enough to come into the PVL as well,” Gandler said. “But there’s definitely still so much to work on.”
