The University of the East Junior Red Warriors are poised to give their all as they take on the National University Nazareth School Bullpups in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 86 high school boys’ volleyball tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan.
Junior Red Warriors head coach Raffy Mosuela attributes their first UAAP final appearance since Season 78 to years of overcoming setbacks and heartbreak.
“From last year pa, gusto talaga naming mapunta sa UAAP Finals, pero siguro nakulangan pa kami sa skill nung mga bata,” Mosuela said after their semifinals win against the dethroned champions, the Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tamaraws.
“Kaya trinabaho talaga namin ‘yung mga pagkukulang namin noong offseason and talagang mino-motivate ko ‘yung bata, sabi ko ilang beses na kaming bronze or podium finish kaya time naman na para bumalik kami sa finals,” he added.
The Junior Red Warriors, once an 11-peat UAAP high school boys volleyball champion, saw their streak halted by the Bullpups in the Season 78 finals in 2015.
“Patience lang talaga. Hindi naman nadadaan ‘yan sa biglaan, kailangan alam natin ‘yung situation. Hindi kailangang madaliin nila,” Mosuela said as they aim to add to the school’s 15th overall championship.
