Anyang’s Rhenz Abando unlikely to participate in EASL playoffs in Cebu

Rhenz Abando is uncertain to play for the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the East Asian Super League (EASL) playoffs scheduled in Cebu this week.

A Red Boosters team official mentioned they will adopt a “wait and see” approach following Abando’s injury from a bad fall during their recent game against the Goyang Sono Skygunners in the Korean Basketball League last Sunday.

“He complained of pain due to shock to the injured area. A CT scan was performed, and, fortunately, it was found that there was no bone damage. However, the pain continues, so he needs a few days of rest,” a team official told Naver Sports online.

“I think we will have to see his EASL status together. First of all, the plane ticket was issued,” he added. “If Rhenz doesn’t have strength in his back, everyday life is uncomfortable, so I think we’ll have to wait and see if he can play basketball.”

Abando suffered a bad fall last Sunday after he collided in the air with the Skygunners’ Lee Jeong-hyeon while attempting a fast break layup in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Prior to this, Abando was sidelined for almost two months after sustaining multiple injuries when he was pushed while in the air by Skygunners import Chinanu Onuaku during their KBL game last December.
