Gorayeb urges Capital1 players to make the most of their chance in PVL

Capital1 Solar Energy head coach Roger Gorayeb encouraged his players not to squander the chance provided by the Solar Spikers to display their talents in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Many of Gorayeb’s players have faced cuts, releases, or rejections from other teams, making playing for the Solar Spikers an opportunity for them to demonstrate their worth in the professional league, according to the seasoned volleyball coach.

“I am giving everybody a chance to play. Kasi, aminin man natin, karamihan ng players namin ‘yung mga hindi nare-sign ng ibang team kaya, kung hindi dahil sa Capital1, baka nanonood na lang kami (ng PVL), Gorayeb said in a post-game interview.

“Pinapakiramdaman ko lang sila, pero, ‘yun nga, this is their opportunity; maaring blessing in disguise din kasi karamihan nakapirma na nung January,” he added. “The entry of Capital1 is a new lease on their playing careers.”

“Kaya nga sinasabi ko sa kanila na ilaban na nila ng hampasan ‘yung mukha nila. Kapag nabasag ang ilong nila, punta tayo kay Dra. (Vicky) Belo. Manghingi tayo ng pampa opera sa may ari (ng team), magbibigay naman ‘yun,” he further said.

Gorayeb, in the same interview, acknowledged the challenge of building team chemistry in his squad, which was formed less than two months ago. He expressed hope that his players would quickly adapt to the system.

“Huwag naman sana abutin ng isang taon bago namin makilala ang isa’t isa; every day is a learning process for us; dapat matuto kami, they learn from me; I learn from them; dapat magsama sama eh kasi ito ay new team with old players,” Gorayeb said.

“Hindi bale nang mawala ang pasensya ko, huwag lang ‘yung pasensya ng mga may ari, ‘yung mga (Mandy and Milka) Romero, kapag nawala ‘yun, wala nang Capital1,” he added.

The Solar Spikers clinched their first PVL victory on Tuesday night with a 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-20 win against fellow newcomer Strong Group Athletics.

“Sabi naman ng mga owners, ‘Titiis tayo sa first conference basta hindi tayo magbo-bottomline.’ Ayan hindi na kami magbo-bottomline kasi nanalo na kami ng isa,” Gorayeb said.
