Peter Osang was a dominant force inside as the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers prevailed over the Enderun College Titans, 57-48, in the quarterfinals of the Pinoyliga Cup on Sunday at the Enderun College Gym in Taguig City.
The incoming UST foreign student athlete finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks and a steal as the Growling Tigers advanced to the semifinals.
Ashon Andrews led the way with 15 points, while Leland Estacio contributed 13 markers, including three three-point conversions for the Growling Tigers, which will battle the College of St. Benilde Blazers in the semifinals round.
“We are happy with the win, but we have to prepare for our next game (against the Blazers) because sila ‘yung team na tumalo sa amin dito,” said assistant coach Japs Cuan.
Holding to a slim 14-13 lead after the opening quarter, the Growling Tigers started to pull away in the second quarter as they outscored the Titans, 22-10, to take a 36-23 halftime lead.
Both teams struggled in the third period as UST maintained a 46-33 advantage before the Titans attempted to make a run in the fourth frame but could only come to as close as nine points.
DJ Howe was the lone double-digit scorer for the Titans, as he ended up with 17 markers.
