PLDT Inflicts first loss on Choco Mucho

The PLDT High Speed Hitters regained their aggression in the fifth set to score a 25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 11-25, and 15-13 victory against the erstwhile unbeaten Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan.

Setter Kim Fajardo distributed the ball well to end up with 22 excellent sets to go with eight points on four attacks, two blocks, and two service aces for the High Speed Hitters.

“Inisip ko talaga ‘yung pagod, kung paano kami nagprepare para sa game na ito, ‘yung mga sakripisyo namin kasi alam namin na Choco Mucho is a team that is so tough,” Fajardo said during her Player of the Game interview.

“Nung fifth set talagang nilaban na namin, kasi pagod na kami pero pagod din sila, kung sino ‘yung hindi titiklop ‘yun talaga ang mananalo,” she added. “’Yun ‘yung naging motivation namin.”

After failing to close out the Flying Titans in the third and fourth sets, the High Speed Hitters opened the fifth frame with a slim 6-4 lead, but Choco Mucho forced deadlock several times, with the last at 13-all on a Cherry Rondina connection.

The High Speed Hitters reached match point at 14-13 on a powerful hit from rookie Kiesha Bedonia before they secured the tough win on an attack error from the Flying Titans’ Kat Tolentino.

With the outcome, the High Speed Hitters tied the Flying Titans and defending champion Creamline Cool Smashers on top of the standings with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
