Jonnel Policarpio had another impressive outing as the EcoOil-La Salle Green Archers scored a 90-63 rout of the Go Torakku-St. Clare Saints in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup on late Monday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The sophomore forward tallied 17 points to go with nine rebounds as the Green Archers secured their second consecutive blowout win, tying the Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda Red Lions on top with a 2-0 record.
Cyrus Austria added 15 markers, Michael Phillips collected 12 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Henry Agunanne also contributed 12 points for the Green Archers.
Green Archers assistant coach Caloy Garcia said the performance of the reigning UAAP men’s basketball tournament champions still needs improvement ahead of their title defense later this year.
“Despite the two wins, we still have to learn, and we believe we can still be better, especially on execution. That’s one thing we have to work on,” Garcia said in a post-game interview.
The Green Archers started slow as they trailed 7-8 midway through the first quarter before launching a searing 19-3 scoring run that put the two-time defending PBA D-League champs ahead for good at 26-11.
John Rojas and Ryan Sual scored 14 points apiece for Go Torakku-St. Clare, which absorbed its second straight blowout loss.
