SMB’s Gallent relishes chance to coach in PBA All Stars

Just 39 days after leading San Miguel to a PBA Commissioner’s Cup title, coach Jorge Gallent will get his chance to call the shots for the PBA All Stars.

Gallent will be the head tactician for Team Barroca, opposite Tim Cone of Team Japeth, in the All-Stars festivities.

“It’s a really great blessing for me at the start of the year. Just hope it continues like that,” said the amiable San Miguel coach on Thursday’s press conference.

Joining him at the presser are team captains Mark Barroca and Japeth Aguilar, Bacolod Mayor Albee Benitez, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, and PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro.

“After winning the championship, I’m coaching the All Star game, (so I’m) very happy about it. I would like to thank the fans for bringing me here. We will try to win the game and try to be competitive on Sunday,” he said.

Things happened quickly for grateful Gallent, who won a PBA crown only on his second conference as chief tactician for the Beermen.

He has been a long-time assistant before taking over the reins in January 2023 at the start of the Season 47 Governors’ Cup.

His All Stars debut was sealed by fans no less who voted him together with Cone and him for the coaching jobs.

“Kinda imagined (coaching in the PBA All Stars), but not right away. I was expecting it a year, two years more, but it came early. So super, very happy,” said Gallent.
