Jackie Buntan finally gets a chance to vie for another title.
The Filipino-American striking sensation is set to clash against Anissa “C18” Meksen as they fight it out for the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing championship in ONE Fight Night 23 on July 6 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
It’s a massive opportunity for Buntan as she rides the wave of momentum after winning her last three bouts, including her victory over Martine “The Italian Queen” Michieletto.
This also offers her a shot at redemption after falling short while challenging for the ONE strawweight muay thai title against Smilla “The Hurricane” Sundell back in 2022.
But Buntan showed fight fans that she’s the type that never gives up.
What a comeback she has plotted, from her dominating conquest over Amber Kitchen to her first round knockout of Diandra Martin to the aforementioned victory over Michiletto.
But it won’t be a walk in the park against Meksen, who is considered the undisputed pound-for-pound best women’s kickboxer on the planet.
The French-Algerian contender is determined to bounce back, especially after failing to capture the ONE interim atomweight kickboxing title.
Buntan is also known to be proud of her Filipino roots.
“Whether you’re an athlete or a non-athlete, we all have it in our hearts that we’re all very passionate. Filipinos are very passionate. They show their hearts on their sleeves; they have heart and they have grit. When you mix the two with combat sports, that’s where you’ll find greatness,” she said.
