Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings head coach Tim Cone remarked that the progress of the previously struggling teams in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup is beneficial for the league.
Cone noted that the resurgence of teams such as Terrafirma Dyip, NLEX Road Warriors, NorthPort Batang Pier, and Blackwater Bossing in this conference has intensified the competition.
“I think it is great for the PBA that you can be beaten on a given night; we proved that last Sunday against Terrafirma,” Cone said after their 105-86 victory over the Bossing on Friday night.
“Teams that are not expected to do well have done very, very well, and you can see that the talents have elevated, the coaches have elevated, and it’s a good thing,” added the winningest PBA mentor.
Cone said they are now bracing for their upcoming match against the Batang Pier this Sunday, hoping that his squad won’t repeat the same mistake they committed against the Dyip last week.
“They are shooting very well; Arvin (Tolentino) is shooting very well; they picked up their defense; they have a lot of weapons; they are not that big, but their guys play physical. It’s gonna be a battle,” Cone said.
“(Batang Pier head) coach Bonnie (Tan) has done a great job for them this conference, and they came from a loss against Magnolia (Chicken Timplados Hotshots), so they are looking to get back against us,” he added.
