Chery Tiggo’s streak fueled by upset win over Creamline, says coach Kung Fu

The Chery Tiggo Crossovers’ winning streak in the Premier Volleyball League 1st All-Filipino Conference was fueled by their huge win against the Creamline Cool Smashers last month.

According to Crossovers head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes, the upset win against the defending champions became a blessing for his squad as it ignited their current winning streak.

“Isang malaking blessing talaga na nangyari sa amin ‘yun kasi sila (Creamline) ‘yung tinitingnan namin,” Reyes said. “For how many years, for how many games, kami ang nakapag break ng winning streak nila, so malaking motivation sa amin ‘yun?”

The Crossovers pulled off a massive 25-18, 26-24, and 25-23 straight-set victory against the Cool Smashers on March 16, ending the latter’s 19-game winning streak that time.

“Pero every game is a turning point para sa amin eh, so it will turn to good or it will turn to down, so ganun lang ang motivation namin, pero siyempre gusto namin dun kami sa paangat,” Reyes said.

“May mga wakeup call na nangyari at patuloy naming trinatrabaho ‘yun, mga what went wrong sa mga previous losses namin, so itong (winning streak namin) nagre-reflect lang kung ano ‘yung ineensayo namin,” he added.

Now in joint second place with the Cool Smashers and the Petro Gazz Angels with a 6-2 win-loss slate, Reyes said that the Crossovers are looking to seal one of the four semifinal seats in the tournament.

“So 6-2 (win-loss record kami ngayon) and ‘yung ine-aim namin is makapasok kami ng semifinals, that’s the big picture so far, pero one game at a time muna kami,” Reyes said.

“Siyempre hindi namin pwedeng i-disregard kung sino ‘yung mga makakaharap namin. Mahaba pa ‘yung tatakbuhin ng liga, and may mga tough teams pa kaming makakalaban,” he added.
