Alas Pilipinas Men cap sweep with 5-set win vs Thailand on Independence Day

Alas Pilipinas Men took care of business on Independence Day, conquering Thailand in five sets, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12, to complete a sweep of the 2025 three-day invitational series on June 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It was the Philippines’ first win over Thailand since the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Marck Espejo led the charge with a monster performance, finishing with 31 points off 24 attacks, one block, and six aces.

With the fifth set tied at 10-all, Espejo ignited a 5-2 finishing run, capped by a backrow kill that sealed the dramatic victory.

The Nationals swept all their opponents—Indonesia, Korea, and Thailand—in the tournament, which served as tune-up for the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
Up next on the men’s side, the Filipinos will compete in the 2025 AVC Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup from June 17 to 24 in Manama, Bahrain.
