The College of St. Benilde Blazers have lived up to the hype through five games in the PlayTime Cares 18th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, staying undefeated and asserting their dominance in the NCAA bracket.
Coming off an 81-52 demolition of San Sebastian, CSB head coach Charles Tiu is beginning to see his system take full effect, especially with the return of key players Tony Ynot and Anton Eusebio.
“We’re finally being able to play the way we want to play,” said Tiu.
But Letran is not far behind. The 4-1 Knights, guided by coach Allen Ricardo, are also gaining momentum with the emergence of rookie Titing Manalili and transferee Jun Roque. They recently routed Perpetual, 80-65, to stay within striking distance of the Blazers.
“May mga immaturities lang on both ends pero naaayos na naman namin,” Ricardo noted.
The two squads are set for a top-of-the-group clash this afternoon at 4 p.m., headlining an all-NCAA triple-header.
Earlier matchups will see Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-1) taking on Jose Rizal University (1-1) at 12 p.m., while Arellano (0-2) and Perpetual (1-2) battle for redemption at 2 p.m.
Wilmar Oftana is expected to lead the Generals after their recent 71-64 upset over Mapua, while JRU rookie Sanlea Peñaverde continues to impress following their close 79-76 loss to CSB on June 2.
Both Arellano and Perpetual are eyeing bounce-back wins after suffering tough losses in their previous outings.
