EJ Obiena wins third straight Asian pole vault title in South Korea

EJ Obiena proved once again why he’s Asia’s pole vault king, capturing his third consecutive gold medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi City, South Korea, on Saturday.

The two-time Olympian and current world No. 4 emerged victorious in a tense jump-off against Chinese training partner Huang Bokai after both vaulters failed to clear 5.82 meters in their three allotted attempts.

In the decisive round, Huang was unable to clear 5.77 meters, while Obiena soared past the bar on his first try—sealing the win and his status as a three-time Asian champion.

This latest triumph further cements Obiena’s dominance in the region.
