Team Philippines’ James Buytrago and Rancel Varga fell short of a dream finish in the FIVB Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures on Sunday night at the Nuvali Sand Courts by Ayala Land in the City of Santa Rosa in Laguna.
The tandem of Buytrago and Varga failed to sustain their strong start as they suffered a tight 16-21, 21-16, 15-13 defeat to the Czech Republic’s Krystof Jan Oliva and Vaclav Kurka in the finals.
Despite the result, both Varga and Buytrago said that they were satisfied with their efforts in the competition.
“We are pleased to be on this stage… Blessed for the experience,” Varga said. “It was a good run.”
“We fell short, but we are grateful for the experience,” Buytrago said.
Varga and Buytrago reached the gold medal round after defeating Toms Liepa and Ernests Puskundzis of Latvia, 21-14, 21-16, in the semifinals on Sunday morning.
