Meralco Bolts forward Kier John Quinto is motivated to steer his team past the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in the do-or-die Game 7 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals tonight at the FPJ Arena in Batangas.
The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights gunner mentioned that he has already experienced two heartbreaks against the Gin Kings and is determined to get back at them this time.
“Dalawang beses na ako pinaiyak ng Ginebra, dalawang (PBA) Finals na,” Quinto said. “Usually, kapag rookie ka, sophomore ka, gusto mo lang ng experience. Ito ‘yung para sa akin, hindi na ito pang-experience lang.”
“Ngayon, gustong-gusto ko talagang manalo (against Barangay Ginebra),” he added. “Gagawin ko lahat para makatulong sa team, lalo na sa Game 7.”
Quinto played an important role in the Bolts’ 86-81 Game 6 victory over the Gin Kings on Wednesday night, finishing with a conference-high of 23 points, mostly in the second half.
“Feeling ko nakatulong ‘yung 3 a.m. ka na makatulog kakaisip kung papaano ba ang gagawin ko para matulungan ko ‘yung team ko manalo against Ginebra. Sobrang stressful talaga,” Quinto said.
The Bolts have never defeated the Gin Kings in their previous six best-of-seven series, including three championship series, while Meralco edged Barangay Ginebra once in a best-of-three quarterfinals series (2022 PBA Philippine Cup).
