Denice Zamboanga is grateful to have her fiancé Fritz “Kid Tornado” Biagtan as one of her coaches for her upcoming ONE women’s atomweight title fight against champion Stamp Fairtex.
Zamboanga and Biagtan know the importance of the title tiff in Philippine MMA as she tries to become the first Pinay to win a world title in MMA.
“’Yung relationship namin ni Fritz when it comes to training, ‘pag training training talaga kami. Parang hindi kami magpartner,” she said.
“Sobrang strict niya when it comes to training, when he tells me to do this, kailangan ko talagang gawin.”
When asked if their feelings get in the way of their workout routine, she said they know how to set their boundaries.
“Kaya naming magflip ng switch. Hindi kami nagbebebe time,” said Zamboanga, who is set to challenge Stamp in ONE 167 on June 8.
Zamboanga also reiterated that she feels it is her time to win the women’s atomweight strap.
In 2020, Zamboanga was supposed to challenge then-champion Angela Lee for the title, but the fight was shelved when the latter got pregnant.
“Sobrang daming challenge noong time na yun. Nageexpect na ko na ay lalaban na ko ng championship, pero nacacancel. That’s not God’s will,” she said.
Now that she was given the opportunity again, she felt the timing was just right.
“I think this is God’s will. Feeling ko time ko na ito. Feeling ko ito na ang ibinigay sa akin ni Lord.”
