Alas Pilipinas Men turns back Indonesia in AVC Cup classification round

The Alas Pilipinas national men’s volleyball team secured a 25-23, 23-25, 25-14, and 25-22 victory over Indonesia in the classification round of the AVC Challenge Cup for Men on late Wednesday night in Manama, Bahrain.

Marck Espejo and Leo Ordiales took turns on the offensive end as the Philippine men’s volleyball team secured their first victory of the tournament after dropping their two group stage games against China and Bahrain.

After pulling off a tight first set win and dropping a tough second set, the Alas Pilipinas Men went on a strong start in the third set, establishing a double-digit lead behind Espejo and Ordiales en route to a 25-14 triumph.

Alas Pilipinas continued the momentum in the fourth set as they built an 18-13 lead, but Indonesia rallied back to cut the deficit to 21-23 before the Philippine side wrapped up the match with two straight points from Jade Disquitado and Nico Almendras.

Indonesia, which has not won a set in the entire competition until the second set against Alas Pilipinas, was represented by their U-20 men’s volleyball team.
