PVL’s Palou to rookie aspirants: Play at least 3 years in college before turning pro

Premier Volleyball League (PVL) president Ricky Palou has urged rookie aspirants to play for at least three years at their collegiate schools before turning professional.

According to Palou, there is no academic requirement for PVL rookie aspirants, but he prefers them to represent their schools first before joining the league’s draft.

“We don’t want to spoil the college leagues,” Palou said in an interview with Sporting Chance. “I prefer (the rookie aspirants) to serve their schools for at least three years before turning pro.”

“Take Angel (Canino as an example). She’s more than good enough to play in the pros, but I hope she stays with (De) La Salle (University Lady Spikers),” he added.

The PVL will be conducting their first-ever rookie draft this year to give the lower-seed teams an opportunity to bolster their respective rosters.

The deadline for players applying for the PVL draft is June 12, while a lottery to determine the teams choosing the first four picks is slated for June 24.

Teams involved in the lottery are the last four placers of the recent All-Filipino Conference, namely the Strong Group Athletics, Capital1 Solar Spikers, Galleries Tower Highrisers, and Farm Fresh Foxies.
