Former PBA player Jayjay Helterbrand believes his former court partner, Mark Caguioa, has the potential to be a good basketball coach.
The PBA Motoclub had a fun discussion while dining at a Korean restaurant regarding basketball stars turning into great coaches.
Rico Maierhoffer asked Helterbrand if his “Fast and the Furious” Ginebra partner has any potential.
“Ako feeling ko marunong,” said Helterbrand, who now plays in the MPBL. “Hindi sa x’s and o’s, pero magaling magmotivate si Mark e.”
“The secret to being a good coach is to give your players confidence.”
They cited PBA legend Robert Jaworski and former Gilas stalwart Jimmy Alapag as star players who became successful basketball coaches.
One basketball star they do not see transitioning into a mentor is San Miguel Beer’s Terrence Romeo.
“Si Terrence baka hindi e… Sasabihin ni Terrence, ‘One-on-one nga!'” quipped Helterbrand.
