The College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers overcame a slow start to score a 20-25, 25-14, 25-18, and 25-22 win over the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Season 2 on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Gayle Pascual led the way with 14 points on 12 attacks as the reigning NCAA women’s volleyball champions, the Lady Blazers, took a 1-0 record in the Pool C standings.
Jade Gentapa and Michelle Gamit contributed 13 points apiece, while Zamantha Nolasco ended up with 11 markers, including four blocks, for the Lady Blazers.
Lady Blazers head coach Jerry Yee was dissatisfied with the performance of his players, particularly in their first set loss and their slow start in the fourth set.
“Pangit ‘yung laro namin. Either pagod kami, underestimated ‘yung kalaban or masyado kaming eager. So, pangit ‘yung laro namin. Let’s see sa second and third games,” said Yee.
Gia Marcel Maquilang finished with 25 points for the Lady Knights, which dropped to a 0-2 record in the group standings.
