Ethan Alvano shines as Wonju edges Suwon

Ethan Alvano showcased another impressive game as the Wonju DB Promy defeated the Suwon KT Sonicboom, 72-66, in the Korean Basketball League on Monday night at the Wonju Sports Complex.

The Filipino-American guard finished with 13 points to go with six assists, three steals, and two rebounds in 32 minutes as the Promy notched their eighth victory in 18 matches.

Chinanu Onuaku tallied a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds to go with five assists, one steal, and a block to lead the Promy, while Kang Sang-jae contributed 17 markers.

Promy head coach Kim Joo-sung lauded his team for winning back-to-back matches but also rued their missed rebounds and struggles in their defensive rotation against the Sonicboom.

“We lost 12 offensive rebounds in the first half, so we missed the opportunity to have a bigger advantage. However, I think it was a good thing that we lost fewer rebounds in the second half and grabbed more,” Kim said after the game.

“The players were confused in defense and had some problems with the rotation, so we allowed the opponent to shoot,” he added. “Anyway, we were able to gain an advantage under the basket, and the players focused on that until the end.”

Rayshaun Hammonds had a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds; Han Hee-won added 12 markers, while Moon Jeong-Hyeon and Park Ji-won had 10 apiece as the Sonicboom dropped to a 10-8 record.
