Filipinas team skipper Annis announces retirement

Longtime Philippine women’s football team captain Tahnai Annis has announced her retirement from competitive football.
Speaking on the Futbol Brew podcast, the celebrated skipper of the Filipinas shared that she has come to terms with stepping away from the sport.

“I think my body, my mind, and kind of my spirit have just come to a point where it’s all in alignment that it’s time for me to step away,” said the 35-year-old Fil-Am.

Annis, who traces her roots to Lucena, joined the Philippine women’s football program in 2018.
She played a key role in the Filipinas’ ascent, highlighted by their historic triumph in the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship and their qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Over her international career, Annis earned 38 caps and netted 14 goals for the national team.

“But I’m happy to be on this side of it and kind of coming to that on my own terms and getting to share a little bit about what that looks like and how that’s been for me into coming to make this decision,” said Annisa.
