Yulo among those to be feted in PSA awards

The Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) will conclude a historic year in local sports with its annual Awards Night on January 27, 2025, at the Manila Hotel.

Led by Nelson Beltran, the PSA will honor the top personalities and organizations who made the Philippines proud in the world of sports.

This year saw Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo become the country’s first-ever double gold medalist, clinching gold at the Paris Olympic Games in July. This achievement followed weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s historic Olympic gold in Tokyo three years earlier.

The Paris Olympics also saw Pinay boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas win bronze medals.

The highlight of the awards night will be the Athlete of the Year tribute.

Another special segment will be the induction of a new Filipino great into the PSA Hall of Fame, with the late track and field legend Lydia De Vega being the most recent athlete honored.

In celebration of the Philippines’ centennial participation in the Summer Games, past Filipino Olympians will also be recognized during the ceremony.

The traditional awards, including Executive of the Year, National Sports Association (NSA) of the Year, the President’s Award, and top performers like Mr. Basketball and Ms. Volleyball, will also be presented.

Additionally, major awardees from various sports, sports figures, and junior athletes through the Tony Siddayao Awards and MILO Awards, as well as other notable citations, will be recognized.

The ceremony will also include a prayer and a moment of silence to remember the personalities who passed away in 2024.
