Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua said Meralco coach Luigi Trillo picked the wrong team to challenge in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.
The Kings eliminated the Bolts with a Game 3 victory, advancing to the semifinals and proving they were a tough matchup for Meralco.
“Sabi ni Luigi, kami ang pinili. Na kaya nila kami. ‘Yun ang nakalagay. I guess nagkamali sila ng pinili,” Chua told Spin.ph shortly after Ginebra’s 94-87 Game 3 win over Meralco.
Before their quarterfinals matchup, Trillo said at the end of the eliminations that there was a chance they would have to face Ginebra.
“We wanted this,” Trillo said in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report before the playoffs. “I know we’re 0-4 [against Ginebra] right now, including the last one. But we wanted this. We’re going to go through Ginebra anyway, whether it’s now or later.”
Chua also claimed that Meralco consultant Nenad Vucinic, not Trillo, was actually calling the shots for the team.
“Ang coach naman, si Nenad. Bakit si Nenad, iba ang pinili? Kami, pinili niya kami. So nagkamali siya ng pinili,” he said.
“Tinalo namin sila. Ulit.”
Ginebra will battle NorthPort in the semifinals.
