Chery Tiggo Crossovers team captain Aby Maraño has once again been targeted by a malicious Facebook post, this time involving her friendship with Creamline Cool Smashers’ Bea de Leon and Alyssa Valdez.
The Facebook page “Volleyball Queen” alleged that Maraño was not only “disappointed” by Chery Tiggo’s straight-set loss to Creamline on Thursday but also by missing the chance to face Valdez on the court. Instead, it was De Leon who emerged as Creamline’s key player in the match.
“Chery Tiggo captain Abigail Maraño was disappointed after losing 3-0 to Creamline. Abi was angry that Alyssa didn’t even bother to play against Chery: ‘I feel like our team is being looked down upon when CCS gave Bea de Leon as the key player to play against me; next time I want to beat Alyssa,’” it said.
The veteran middle blocker fired back with a strong response on Saturday afternoon, expressing her disapproval of the claims made in the post.
“Excuse me, wala akong statement po na ganyan. Wala rin ako interview after the game,” she wrote in bold letters, making it clear that the claims were entirely false.
“We may [have] lost the game, but our friendship and respect for each other as players [and] colleagues [remain],” she added.
Maraño also called out volleyball fans for their continued obsession with her long-past college rivalry with Valdez.
“CCS did great during the match, so kudos to them. But why make a buzz about me? LOL. ‘Di pa rin over sa college rivalry? 2025 na, nakakaloka!”
The former De La Salle University Lady Spiker did not mince her words but also urged fans to verify information before believing it. She encouraged them to report the account for spreading fake news.
“Please stop creating issues just to make a huge engagement here on FB. Spreading fake news says a lot more about you than me,” she said.
“Please mass report the Facebook page for making fake news and creating statements that weren’t from the players involved in their headlines,” she added in a separate post.
