NCAA retracts Jerry Yee’s ban as CSB head coach

The NCAA has lifted the previous ban placed on Jerry Yee regarding his simultaneous position as the head coach of the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers and the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the Premier Volleyball League.

The NCAA volleyball committee has determined that Yee did not breach the regulation that forbids head coaches of professional teams from holding concurrent head coaching roles for teams participating in the NCAA.

“Correspondences were made between the committee and Benilde regarding Yee’s status, with the committee concluding with the said finding,” the NCAA volleyball committee said.

The development came days after NCAA Management Committee chair Hercules Callanta informed CSB that Yee would not be permitted to continue as Lady Blazers’ coach, citing the league’s rule that forbids professional coaches from overseeing collegiate teams.

The controversy arose after Arellano University questioned Yee’s eligibility just days after its Lady Chiefs fell to the Lady Blazers, 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-17, in last Thursday’s season opener.

With this, Yee is expected to be on the Lady Blazers’ bench when they battle the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers on Saturday afternoon at the San Beda University Gymnasium in Manila.
