JD Cagulangan, Suwon subdue Kevin Quiambao, Goyang in KBL clash

JD Cagulangan and the Suwon KT Sonicboom turned back Kevin Quiambao and the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 69-63, in the Korean Basketball League on Thursday night at the Suwon KT Arena.

Cagulangan tallied three points, two rebounds, and one steal in over 15 minutes of action as the Sonicboom remained in fourth place in the standings with a 26-17 win-loss slate.

Rayshaun Hammonds led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Heo Hoon added 13 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, while Moon Jung-hyun and Park Sun-jae had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Suwon.

“It was a difficult game. We overcame the opponent’s pursuit and won,” said Sonicboom head coach Song Young-jin after the game. “I am grateful to the players, but it’s regrettable that we lost focus in the second half.”

Lee Jae-do tallied 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists; Quiambao chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals; while DJ Burns Jr. contributed 10 points as the Skygunners dropped to a 14-30 record.

Meanwhile, Justin Gutang and the Seoul Samsung Thunders (14-30) scored an 83-77 victory over the defending champions Busan KCC Egis (15-28) at the Busan Sajik Gymnasium.

Gutang finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for the Thunders, while Filipino-American Calvin Epistola was held scoreless with two assists and one rebound in seven minutes of action.
