Alex Eala returns to clay court action in the Madrid Open, where she is set to face a tough opening-round opponent on Wednesday.
Eala, currently ranked No. 72 in the WTA rankings, will take on World No. 64 Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria in her first match of the tournament.
The 19-year-old Filipina is hoping to bounce back after a disappointing exit at the Oeiras Open in Portugal. However, her comeback won’t be easy against the seasoned Tomova, who achieved a career-high ranking of No. 46 in July 2024.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday evening, with Eala aiming to regain momentum on the European clay court swing.
