Eala: I’ve grown so much as a player

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala believes her development over the past year has paved the way for her recent breakout performance at the Miami Open.

“I feel like I’ve grown much as a player in the past year,” said Eala, currently ranked World No. 73, during a press conference on Tuesday.

“Technically, tactically, and more smart on court. I’m physically much stronger than I was a year ago. So I think all of those things combined make such a difference.”

The 19-year-old made headlines with her incredible run in Miami, where she defeated top-tier opponents including Katie Volynets and Grand Slam winners Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek.

Eala now sets her sights on her Grand Slam main draw debut at the French Open, which takes place from May 25 to June 18.
